Mr Peter Sandeman, former Manager of the world famous Leeds City Varieties Music Hall, was honoured by ABTT NorthNet and “Old Theatres” magazine at an informal presentation at Leeds’ Queens Hotel on on Friday 23rd August 2013.
Committee members met with Peter for a photo opportunity, ahead of the actual official presentation, due to take place at the Music Hall in late September, following the Friends of the City Varieties AGM there. The reason for the early get-together was to ensure photos were available for a forthcoming book launch to raise funds for the world famous venue. Miss Caroline Fields, the author, and performer, is also a keen supporter of the Friends, and sales of her “Book of Memories” of the City Varieties will go towards completing the re-gilding of the theatre’s interior, left unfinished after the recent refurbishment.
The lunch-time meeting began with current and former NorthNet Secretaries Vernon Blades and Ivor Dykes presenting the “Philip Windsor” Spanner Award, with accompanying Certificate to Peter, for Outstanding Services to Theatre.
Committee member David Aspinall, who is also Roving Reporter for “Old Theatres” Magazine then presented a framed certificate on behalf of that publication, also honouring Peter’s achievements at the City Varieties. Also present was Miss Caroline Fields, the author, who appears in the attached pictures, and whose links go back to the Josephs at the Varieties.
